Mommsen Investments cc was established in 1997 by Don Mommsen, primarily with the intention to manage his investment portfolio, which chiefly comprised property developments and a share portfolio amassed over many years as a director on the board of the Imperial group.

After having retired from the Imperial group in 2001, Don continued to pursue property development and took on several projects, in which he was actively involved, as both financier and project co-ordination, employing his skills as a leader, gleaned from his years as the Managing Director of the transport division at Imperial.  Then, in 2005, together with his son Wes, decided to investigate viable imports from China as an extension to Don’s considerable business interests.

After 18 months of gathering product information, Don and Wes travelled to China to meet with several factories producing Cummins generators.  This trip was chiefly to satisfy their need to dispel the age old myth that all Chinese goods were “grey” products, and secondly, to establish a business relationship with 5 suppliers producing Cummins generators.

Having spent considerable time with all suppliers, they were satisfied that the Cummins brand, despite being manufactured under license in China, was indeed as much Cummins as those produced in the USA.  It was comforting to learn that DongFeng Cummins was 50% owned by Cummins in the USA, and all their products carry the Cummins Global Warranty.

Mommsen Investments is confident in the products they sell, and decided not to sell other brands of diesel engines with their generators, simply because, after many years in the transport industry, Don has faith in Cummins.
